SKETCHBOOKS.
State of Play
All is fair in love and sketchbooks. For many years, I never left home without one. That is less true today, but I still have at least one sketchbook going at any given time. They get filled with drawings, notes, bits n’ bobs get pasted in— they end up serving as time-keepers, memory machines and trip diaries. Pure gold.
They’re among my most beloved possessions, but I've learned not to treat them as ‘precious’ or they never get filled. Ink spills and bleeds onto neighboring pages; sometimes I ‘ruin’ something on a previous page, but no matter. They’re for play, experimentation, following impulses.
