E DAGGAR ART / LIZ

EDaggar_Feb2022-900px.jpg

I create images from ink and paint in the forms of etchings, drawings, and paintings. My work is representational and typically tells atmospheric stories of landscapes and cityscapes.

Art that moves me feels timeless and perhaps a bit secretive. I’m drawn to images in which new interpretations become apparent at subsequent viewings, the way a book takes on new meaning when re-read years later.

The mark-making and explorations in my works have become a way to connect— with emotions, memories, buried responses to the external—by blocking out the thinking brain, and immersing myself in the process. The tools and materials of analog art are well suited for this. Working with my hands banishes the overthinking, whirring kind of thoughts that plague me so much of the time. It shuts down the hamster wheel in the mind.

With ink or paint I work pretty organically; feel my way through it guided by curiosity, instinct, and a familiarity with the medium. In the case of etching, there’s no room for distraction. It's both a physical and chemical undertaking that requires attention and planning, even when experimentation is the aim.

In either case, the processes of making block out the noise, connect me to to my inner world, and help me forge a language that communicates to the inner worlds of others.

I live, work, and make art in Brooklyn / New York City, where I studied art and design at Pratt Institute. I sell my art, and I’m a member of the following printmaking associations:

Manhattan Graphics Center

Print Club of New York

Society of American Graphic Artists

Los Angeles Printmaking Society

The Boston Printmakers
